Historie obce Rybí [ History ]

The village arose approximately 6 km east of Nový Jičín in a valley under the north hillside of Holivák (481 m) and the south hillside of Libhošťská Hůrka (494 m). First it is mentioned in writing in 1397. Originally it belonged to the domain of Štramberk, later it became a separate country estate with free court, in the middle of the 16th century it belonged to the domain of Fulnek, since 1584 it belonged to the country estate of Kunvald and in 1588 Nový Jičín became its authority. I belonged to the domain of Nový Jičín/Štramberk until 1848. In the past iron ore was extracted in the surroundings and allegedly even gold could be found in the local brook. Due to the efforts of Martin Ritz, townsman of Nový Jičín, sulphur spa was founded at the left tip of the forest called Roveň in 1804. The majority of inhabitants found their living in agriculture, a small number lived from crafts and other were employed in the factories around (Nový Jičín, Štramberk). The most famous native became painter, graphics painter and illustrator of books for children Adolf Zábranský (1909-1981).
